About

Open House Architecture was founded by John McSeveney to combine his twin passions of quality design and wellness. John’s exploration of these subjects started during his final year of studying Archaeology where he examined the relationship between Bronze Age peoples and their built environments.

Following his undergraduate architectural studies in Scotland and Germany, John spent five years working in practice, honing his technical drawing skills and developing a talent for working with high-status historic buildings. John continued to work while he studied for a Professional Diploma in Sustainable Architecture at the Centre for Alternative Technology, aligning his interest of historic buildings with low carbon construction. In his final design project, John returned to exploring the relationship between people and place, this time through the lens of human performance and the growing impact of technology on the body. John’s exploration of these topics have continued to evolve and now include aspects of health, wellbeing and even neurobiology.

Since completing his studies, John has worked on a number of award-winning refurbishments to Grade II and Grade II* listed buildings. In addition to being a RIBA Chartered Architect, John is a RIBA Conservation Registrant and member of the Association of Environmentally Conscious Building.

Open House Architecture aims to combine John’s interests in traditional construction, sustainable design, and human health and wellbeing in order to provide clients with a high quality and considered design service.
